Two years ago on a local radio station, I listened to a Male therapist (based in Nairobi) complain of how a female customer grabbed his jewels during a massage session. And he sounded pretty offended and violated...Rightfully so.
On the international scene, and I quote "A massage therapist in Minneapolis was sentenced to 11 years for inappropriately touching six of his female clients in Apple Valley, Minnesota.” A judge in Dakota County District Court convicted Lawrence Martin Valencour, 62, in December of six felony counts of criminal sexual conduct related to incidents between August and November 2008.
The women reported that Valencour had touched their breasts and buttocks and placed his genitals in their hands during massages. One woman said he had touched her genitals.
Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said: "We are pleased to have brought Mr. Valencour to justice in connection with this egregious conduct. The lengthy prison sentence he received today was certainly warranted." Valencour also must register as a sex offender, attend sex offender treatment and pay restitution.
This sort of horror story is exactly why some women feel uncomfortable being massaged by men and prefer female over male therapists. It's really unfortunate, because most male therapists are in the business for all the right reasons, are true professionals and some of my best massages have been by men. This is certainly an isolated case. I have been going to spas around the world for years and have never encountered inappropriate behavior from any therapist – male or female. Unfortunately, there is often one bad apple in every barrel.
Advice:
Take the responsibility by checking references prior to engaging a therapist. However, in the unlikely event that such an unfortunate incident happens, please do report the incident so that the offender faces the law.
Do you or someone you know have had a similar experience? Please share.
